Lucky Lady Part 6 of 12
It’s not an everyday occurrence that you’re going to find Liza Minelli, Gene Hackman, and Burt Reynolds as a ménage a trois, but that’s what you get with Lucky Lady, a movie that you’ll have trouble finding on DVD unless it’s a bootleg copy. Nor was it even released on VHS (in the US, a pal version was released in a few countries) This version was recorded off of HBO Signature by me quite a while back so it isn’t the greatest in terms of quality but at least it’s a copy of a movie you’ll certainly have trouble finding elsewhere. It’s a rather odd movie but is watchable. The main problems with it was that it seemed as if they didn’t know whether they wanted to make a comedy romp then in the last third of the movie decided to change into a very bloody gory violent action movie. It seems as if youre watching two different films. Also on hand in this flick is Robbie Benson as their sidekick or mascot or whatever, and he’s certainly one of the best things about this movie. The movie has been much maligned and was a major box office flop that nearly broke Fox which may explain the lack of a video release. But after 33 years, I think we can look back at it a little more favorably now, although it is still not one would consider particularly good cinema. What you get here also is the studio ending, tacked on because studio executives absolutely hated the original (You can find a synopsis of the original ending at the IMDB under trivia).
